The challenge

Design an intuitive carbon accounting product enabling large enterprise clients to simply and accurately monitor CO2 emissions. At the same time migrate away from an established spreadsheet-based workflow, seamlessly and in alignment with the company’s automation focused vision for the future.

The results

100% positive feedback from internal and external stakeholders and potential clients on this first-in-industry workflow, providing end to end visibility of every piece of data contributing to an organisation’s carbon footprint.

The work

Waldo partnered with Minimum right from the beginning of this project. Together we designed a product for the collection and management of data used for the creation of the carbon footprint for large enterprises. It had to be a seamless and easy to understand workflow for customers submitting and monitoring data, as well as carbon accountants and admin staff within the company. The process had to be designed in such a way that it could be automated in stages with the transition being as seamless as possible for both employees and customers alike.

Service design & UX: understanding a complex space

In order to create a system that solved Minimum’s problem, Waldo’s team set off on a mission to create a detailed blueprint of the current manual workflow, capturing all states and processes the data goes through. Once established we had to create efficient and intuitive workflows for the ingestion, cleansing, and preparation of all carbon related data for import into an automated carbon calculation engine

UI: minimising errors and visualising complexity

We knew that to achieve success, we need to create a simple and clear UI, helping the users understand and focus on the specific task they need to perform while ensuring all the logic required for future automation is easily understandable. 

Additionally, we created a customer-facing dashboard, allowing a seamless and quick overview of data collection and transformation status, as well as project management and overview, giving customers all the information about the status of their carbon footprint in an easily digestible format.
